Smoothies or syrup sakes...?

So, while I was at college Daniesha, one of my roommates undertook a weight loss challenge. One day Daniesha  proclaim "I lost 20 lbs!" With pictures to prove my other roommate and I was estatic about how successful her journey was going. "You both should come to the gym and work out with me. " She said. Well, I wasn't exactly trying to lose any weight but Adelphi, had recently opened up a new smoothie cafe inside the gleaming new gym. So to be supportive of her all three of us committed to trekking to the gym very Tuesday and Thursday night.

One of the perks of going to the gym was getting a smoothie at the end. I totally agree "the best time to eat is after your workout to replenish your body". Especially, now at smoothie cafe. The smoothie cafe had an attractive arrangement of fresh apples, bananas, oranges along with sandwiches, yogurt and sports drinks for sale. For the first few weeks, I was so excited to be keeping up with the workouts and enticed by the new smoothie cafe I was content to drink my banana protein shake every thursday.
At first I didn't strike me as odd, that I had to continuely request that the attendant add the banana fruit into the blender while ordering  the banana protein smoothie. At the beginning I was pacified with just the banana and what she called the "strawberry or mango puree". Then I began to crave difference flavors. However, I always wanted to see the attendant add the fresh fruits. The only selection was bananas, apples, oranges and packaged grapes... Long story short once I realized my smoothies were basically syrup and ice... it damaged my drive to workout indoors. Those smoothies were syrup shakes!!

Food Justice is the right to buy, sell, grow and
to know what is our food. Are the smoothies you buy just syrup shakes?
