Opening the door to leadership

Nothing sparks ownership as much as the opportunity to lead, to teach and to nurture.  I met little MJ last fall when she stopped by Mapes Garden to plant daffodils with her grandma. Then she came back an harvested collards and eggplant. This spring I sent her family pictures of the daffodils that had bloomed. I invited them to stop by an plant in our new flower bed areas. (We had to chop down a 35 year old weeping willow.) When we reached our second flower garden, her Uncle P stopped by to visit. She eagerly instructed him how to plant flowers. Clearly her family has invest a lot into her education, but having the opportunity to be engaged in out of school actives allows her to put her knowledge into action.
