Garlic & Onions

My first harvest from the Pizzabox was garlic and onions. You will know garlic is ready when the last three leaves turn brown. I am not sure how to spot onions. I planted  Walking Egyptian onions so when the flower came (or later the seeds) I cut that stem so that the bulb could keep growing.
As I puttered around in my box, I began smelling onions;  this made me really began craving porksops, chicken - I was getting hungry. On a whim I tried some onion shoots... it didn't hit the spot. I couldn't wait to harvest, ever so often I picked a few.

Thus the following weeks the size of onions and garlic varied. I also pick some out early because their location was interfering with the other vegetables I had planted. My garlic did fairly well considering I slightly over watered them the  last few weeks of June. They varied in size but most of them were a little bigger than size of a small toddler's fist.

My onions on the other hand are still not quite ready to harvest. I plucked some and they where barely the circumference of a half dollar.
