Grocery shopping on a tight budget

Here are some tips for effective grocery shopping:

  1. Eat before you go into the supermarket - dont go shopping hungry you will buy nonsense.
  2. Create a grocery list
  3. Pick up the circular and spend time circling any items that are on your grocery list
  4. Buy vegetables and fruits that are in season
  5. If you're buying multiples consider doing a "merchandise quality test" and purchase the off brand...
  6. If you buy the off brand on items such as bleach, oatmeal, flour, sugar, pasta then it won't hurt as much when you buy free range eggs or a soy/almond milk
  7. Only buy things in bulk if you have space to store it, don't mind sharing it with friends or another method of using it before it spoils
  8. Buy in intervals, catch the sales.
  • In closing, learn your supermarket's strengthens and weaknesses. When does the butcher section place out fresh cuts? When does bread get delivered? Who is the manager?I enjoy going grocery shopping and I often go every week. However, if I didn't and I brought everything at once.. I wouldn't catch the sales. Oh and contrary to popular belief - my local South Bronx supermarket:Price Choice is great!
