Creating a Landmark: Street naming after Heidi Hynes

 So much has transpired since January 2019, when Heidi passed away. It feels as if the stakes to preserve our way of life and develop community became 10 times harder.  Where do we start, who do we ask? Who wants to transform the Bronx versus who just wants to line their pockets? Who is willing to join the fight?

On May 1st the community gathered to name Mapes and 178th Street "Heidi Hynes way". As CD 6 experiences waves of development that displaces residents, small businesses and local cultural institutions, this corner will stand as a reminder of her work to improve and maintain the livelihood for locals.
