Community Police Meeting Reaction

So the 48th held a NCO meeting tonight. It was cute... but frustrating. The center provide pizza and ppe for those who stopped by. My most productive take away is hopefully the center and the NYPD can find resources to collaborate on parenting classes. The police seemed very enthusiastic about their charge to work with local stakeholders. My less productive response... (is the last sentence).

"New way of policing we are focusing on more community engagements and getting to know the neighbors."

What the attendees heard: there is a new chain of command which has funding to put on shows.

Our goal is stop the shooting..... What about all the other crimes?

What new of policing can happen if we are not in agreement on what crime is impacting my quality of life? how can we agree how to deter crime?

It seemed like they especially wanted us to call when we hear a gun shot but the cpmmunity wanted to know why they don't show up to prevent altercations and verify incidents.

What incident the police will respond to was very confusing, the officer kept using the word "prioritize". Yet he encourage us to call 911.

There was a shooting apparently on one of the main commercial corridors. The officer reported that a lady called 45 mins after someone had been shot. There are sensors that can tell if its gun shots or fire crackers. Why didn't she call it in earlier? Well, with all that fancy technology why do you need us to call it in?

The percinct has recently dispatched a number of police to two areas of concern. The problem is he officers don't greet the community and we see cars driving past as we are on the phone with the police.

The decision to put all resources towards one troublesome intersection seems counter productive. Their presence is only for a moment... the undesire action will flow like a river around them. They are working in isolation and not addressing the cause.

The police stated that as of last year  they don't respond to car accidents unless some is injured or dead. (Does that hold true for altercations?)

Police not being able to solve thefts or respond to accidents at other locations in the community ... even though you see cars driving past or officers standing on a corner, doesn't make me want to call because I heard a gun shot. How do I know you will come then?

Furthermore, what they are allowed to do sounds very reactionary...

Unfortunately my take away was don't call the police until everything has popped off. Be prepared to handle things yourself.

But let's look out for their halloween parade and any future giveaway.

I hope everyone has a solid relationship with Jesus.
