On Dec. 5th, New York Botanical Gardens Bronx Green-up brought a group of volunteers to Drew Gardens to practice pruning. Most of the volunteers were apart Bronx Green-Up gardening certificate program. For about 2 months, the class met on wednesdays to learn appropriate pruning techniques, learn who to care for pruning tools and to learn most importantly the perfect timing for pruning various types of greenery from rose bushes to fruit trees. In addition to this, students are also able to gain pratical experience by completeing thier mandatory community service hours. This is a win-win for community gardens.
