Seed saving: cucumber
This year, I realized that many folks in New York(myself included) have become so far removed from the earth that we have created an elaborated method of gardening.
To save seeds let plants ripen on the vine. The picture below shows how long the cucumber grew as we waited for the cucumber to ripen. It finally broke off on its own in late september/october.
Saving seeds allows one to regrow the plants that did well in your local conditions and gardening habits. Of course, there is more to seed saving but that is the beginning and gist of it.
