Onions for Sale- Cuba

On my way to a workshop at the Cuba Institute for Philosophy, I walked past a couple of carts selling food, candy, newspapers along the Calle Principal. When I enter what seem to be their residential nieghborhood I saw a man selling ... onions.

I could hardly believe my eyes, braided neatly in rows,
in hues of yellows and orange thy glowed, as the rickety shopping cart rolled,
the old man called out to all the beautiful homes
Cebollas, compra su cebollas.

This highlights the scarcity of vegetables in Havana. You think the Bronx and East New York is a food dessert. Access to quality fresh fruits and vegetables were never around until I was leaving and a new month was beginning.
