Block Parties with Councilman Torres and Auntie Mindy

This time last year, I was planning block parties and being invited to one every other week. Every week a new neighbor said, oh I wished I knew about this, earlier. I would reply "there is another coming up". They would say "I can donate something for the next one." Tons of watermelon, water, school supplies, clothes, games and specialty dishes. We built community, earned bragging rights and felt safer as we connected faces with names and stories. We started in late may and continued until early October. I wonder if there will be one this year.
I went to alot of block parties because I was supporting folks who I wanted to attend my final Block party between my church and Guess Senior Center. Two people who consistently support me was Councilman Ritiche Torres and Auntie Mindy. Councilman Torres donated bookbags at two different events. Auntie Mindy was a cook, she tabled and shared free resources and even hosted her own Block party!
