Georgia Rosa: Gone but never forgotten

This week while walking to the market, I pasted a crowd on the street signing a mural over a vigil. It was very somber... I recognized some faces... but I felt awkward entering the crowd and asking who died.

On my way back no one was there. I slipped up to the vigil. As I was quietly grieving, a lady asked me who it was for. Ms. Georgia Rosa, a great matriarch for the Crotona neighborhood. Her building did not have a formal tenant association, but every year around Halloween, Christmas  she reserved th community room with her team and they put something together for the kids. People knew her as a resource and a stable fixture in our neighborhood.

She really was a sweet sociable person who loved to build community. Here we are at the Crotona Neighborhood Appreciation Day in 2019. I always enjoyed saying her name Ms. Georgia Rosa. And she would respond with, what are you doing next for the community?
I don't know just yet, what my next move will be in Crotona, but I am praying your family be comforted in this season, may every life you touch build on your legacy. We thank God for your example.

*Ms. Georgia Rosa past away from complications due to her battle with Kidney Disease.  She did not died due to the Corona Virus.
