What does it take to start a Corbin Hill Farmshare site?

During the last zoom cook I used the kale and one small pumpkin from the previous farmshare to make a  butternut squash pizza  recipe. As I cooked we discussed:  what would it take to start a Corbin Hill Farm  drop off site in District 6.

Thank you Andrew from Corbin Hill  who joined us to answer our question about  starting a site in the BRONX!

  1.  How many people are needed to start a drop-off site? Preferably 20-25 to cover the cost of food and farmers commuting from upstate NY to the city.
  2. How much does the bag cost?  The price of the bag is renegotiated each winter. The new price of the bag will be announced in January.
  3. Do you accept SNAP? Yes, we accept SNAP, it's processed through an EBT machine.
  4. Is all the food really organic and from NY?  Most of the food is organic and from farmers in NYS. We also source produce from down south during the winter months and add on products such as maple syrup from Vermont.
  5. Can we introduce to you a farmer? Yes, we always love to grow our network and support Black farmers.

His questions for us:

  1. Do you have a potential drop off  location? Yes two potential options in CB 6.
  2. Do you  have  2 volunteers who could assist with packing the bags? Yes!
  3. Do you  know of an opportunity to process extra food scraps?Yes we do! Green Feen Organixs
  4. Corbin Hill returns in January, when are you looking to join us as a new site?

Next steps: Recurit 15-25 of consumers and volunteers for an farmshare opening in early 2022.

Things to consider:

  1. How can we get access a couple of tents, bins, and a small shed?
