Bugs are not nice

Do you ever wonder how you should deal with bugs??
A lot of people run or move when they see a bee... saying ¨"oh no, I don´t want the bee to sting me." Or when my sister see a mosquito she goes absolutely berserk or one of my former roommates refrained from killing mosquitoes because of her religion. I never really thought about how to act. Usually I automatically kill roaches if I see them (yes I see them on L.I. and when I am in the city.)-I am not much of a girlie girl to go screaming, and if I see a fly I get mad, because they make a very annoying sound. But as for the rest of insects, it´s sort of hard to catch and to kill them. I usually ignore them... well actually I don´t really see any other insects a lot in NYC.
I guess that´s why I didn´t kill the insects when I first saw them. I figured I am in Costa Rica they belong here... my house has 2 sun roofs, there are beautiful gardens surrounding me, two beaches enclosing me... well. My first days here I saw some pretty interesting insects. A few ants, a dragon fly, a special spider in a wildlife reserve on Curu Island, some butterflies and a moth that my host brother bothered.
Then I saw it. One night sitting there at the computer just as I am now... I saw a scorpion. Boy was I excited. I have never seen an actual scorpion. It came and went back into a near by wall. My host brother passed by to tell me "not to shut of the computer when I was done" and at that moment the scorpion crawled by again. I excitedly showed him the scorpion.
- ! Mira una escorpio!
-¿Dónde? ¿Usted vio un escorpión?
-si, es bueno (here he cut me off)
-!no , son malo! Son peligroso.
Then follows a flurry of Spanish in which all I caught was it´s bad. Oh wait… he made sure I understood that scorpions were bad… !son malo, !Then he instructed me to bring him something to cut of the scorpion tail. He had to pounce on it three times. I could hear the shell cracking each time. Few minutes later he brought my host mom and I had to show her where it came from. Later she told me that everyone was allergic to scorpion bites except the father. But she had medicine on hand just in case someone got bitten. I haven´t seen any scorpions since that day.
That was my first incident with the insects.
Hmm… but scorpions aren´t insects - are they??
