Daffodils: Are signs of hope and resiliency
At a vibrant Senior Center in the South Bronx, I coordinate a group of seniors as they change the dialogue about healthy food in the communities. This project is different from usual programs in senior centers as the goal of this program is to have the seniors facilitate workshops, cooking demos and other activities. After my initial presentation, I went around and spoke with the seniors through out the center about the reality our neighborhoods and if it could be more healthy.
One project they knew starting off they wanted to do was restarting their garden. Seniors who volunteered to be apart of my team and those who didn't all shared how the the garden was destroyed last year. They also excitedly shared how many different vegetables they were growing, with any help or support.
There are many things we hope to accomplish this year. I must say, as March came around, the blooming daffodils in the broken lonely box was this NYCHA community sign that this team was resilient.
