The Unveiling of the Revolution

40, 50, 60 years ago sitting or standing was an act of defiance, a matter of life and death. The social unrest was a reality for everyone. Race and class aside folks had to make daily decisions whether or not to uphold the norms of society. But you know this..

Now, is the revolution is over? In a state of deaden consouciness, the most organic things have become revolutionary.

  • Growing your own food is an act of survival.
  • Pausing and questioning the fine print is defiance.
  • Where you buy your clothes is a political choice
  • Wearing your hair natural is making a statement.
  • Cooking your own food is a step to a healthier lifestyle.
  • Having a chaste lifestyle is antiquated and suppressing
  • Upholding Christian values is a threat.

If things are only getting worse, at times I am afraid to imagine the future. When Gil Scott-Heron said the revolution will not be televised; I wonder if he forsaw folks struggling to keep basic rights.
