Mayoral Candidate Food Forum

It was interesting hearing the prospective Mayoral candidates talk about food policy. Some had clear plans and relatable testimonies of their work to increase food security in NYC. Others were great orators and bureaucrats.  All felt that it was very apropos to have this submit considering the impact of COVID-19 on people's ability to earn a living wage, pay rent and the main focus: access food. Furthermore, most agree that while COVID-19 exacerbated this conditions,  food insecurity like housing insecurity was increasing and an issue prior to COVID-19.

Before I jump to the recommendaitons and platforms. Walter Mosely, stated "roughly 80% of Americans think they are middle class. Middle class is denfined as someone who can live unemployed for a year, without any of their other circumstances change. Ie: where their children go to school, ability to vacation, pay for car insurances, etc..

There were several reoccurring themes in terms of how candidates believed Food Insecurity, mismanagement, lack of accountability should be address.
