Guns and Green zebra tomatos

Fried Green tomatoes?? I was so shock to eat any tomatoe but a red tomato. I remember when, asked my dad did he ever eat fried green tomatoes. "Ask your my mom", was the reply. Downsouth its very common and there is a great old movie called... Fried Green tomatoes. I was so surprised by black cherry tomatoes (see earlier blog: Miriam and Black grape tomatoes) All of his went through my mind when I saw this slide.

 At the Greenthumb's 31st Grow Together conference the Keynote speaker LaDonna Redmond said: "In my neighborhood, it was easier to get a gun than a striped zebra tomato." She lives out west. Same seems to be true for youth in NYC. I know I can't buying any Cherokee Purple tomato from the best of the supermarkets in the South Bronx. I dare say, I haven't even seen one at Whole Foods. Yet, people can identify Ak-47s, 38s, and 45s. I wonder, if I had a city wide scavenger hunt...How many varied illegal guns I could get versus how many types of fresh heirloom tomatoes I could buy?
