Garlic grows in the city
This fall some urban farmers all over NYC did the cupid shuffle as we planted garlic in our raised beds. But this post is not quite about my garlic planting in my community garden. Recently, my aunt came to stay for a few months from Jamaica. When I went to visit her- she had garlic growing in the kitchen! Basil, mint, even thyme - but a garlic too?? Apparently she does this all the time and with in a short time she plucks up her home grown garlic.
So, I ran home as fast as I could across the Bronx with my mind spinning. Why are we wasting time planting garlic to harvest it in July or later when we can grow it in less time in our home? Days later I spotted some garlic sprouting in a supermarket I brought a bulb to plant in doors. Let's see what happens...
