State of your Street address - WNYC - The Brian Lehrer show

Today on the Brian Leher show, he had an awesome segment called the State of Your Street Address. As I listen to talk shows more and more I think what is the purpose and what was the effectiveness. These are some of the complaints people called in:
  1. Folks are cutting down street trees for varies reasons and leaving the tree stump in the ground.
  2. In certain neighborhoods roads haven't been paved in years, and there are large potholes which are a danger to walking pedestrians and cause traffic accidents
  3. One family is buying up the apartments in a multi-family Brownstone
  4. Constant construction in Lower Manhattan - decreases the quality of life
  5. Neighbors not Picking up after their dogs and bird poop on municipal meters
  6. Constant flooding and sewage overflow - This finally was address
  7. Dept. of Sanitation workers spreading salt on the streets and it didn't even snow
  8. Neighbors not cleaning up after their dogs
Purpose: To highlight the various concerns across NYC, share advice and reason with others
Effectiveness / Con: Most of the callers where from well-to do neighborhoods, thus most of the complaints were trivial and out of touch in my opinion. Or they highlighted exactly what it means to be a New Yorker.

For instance if it had snowed and the Dept. of Sanitation hadn't sprayed the city in salt as a precaution people would have been up-in-arms. So, taking a jab and saying Mayor De Blasio prep Park Slope because that's were he is from is petty. Down in the no-where of the South Bronx we too J-walked across glittery sandy streets in anticipation of a snow storm.

Brian Lehrer's most logical solution contact your council member. Listener's most logical solution create a coalition and stay on top of your council member. Number 5 was the only praise that was reported.
