Staying on the community board

There are many folks that come to the Board. Expanding business owners, City agencies with new designs or plans,  angry residents with noise complaints...

During committee meetings, different organizations and business presents ask for letters of support, unrevealed plans that need community support and/or share resources that residents can benefit from.

After a particuarlly long testy meeting until 10 pm new and old members congregate in small groups. Was our hours of deleberation necessary?

"Yes, they all equally want something from the board. Remember, the squeaky, wheel gets the most oil."" my mentor encouraged me. "Your vote, your decision counts. Never feel that because they are city employees or developers their command is  your wish. If it wasn't in their benefit to come to the board, do you think they would waste their time debating with you all? Why convenience you of anything, if it was unnecessary?  Consider each carefully, How will it impact your neighborhood?  Do you feel it's necessary for your Community Board?"

Always speak up.
